Pre-Registration Discounts are no-more
6/16/2019 2:27 PM
That's right. Yesterday was June 15th, the cutoff date for discounted pre-registrations. The discounted rate has been eliminated from the on-line orders, and any mail-in registrations that come in postmarked after 6-15 will have the late fee assessed.
But all is not lost. While registration has gone up to $75 from here on, there are still a really good reasons to go ahead an get your registration done, either on-line, or by mail:
1) You won't have to fill out the forms and wait in the registration line at the convention. You'll be able to go to the swanky "Pre-Registration" line and pick up your pre-prepared registration package. A definite time savings.
2) If you order your t-shirt before July 1st (Our cut off date for getting our t-shirt order to the printer) you'll be sure to get the size you wanted! Plus you'll save $2 compared to what you'll pay at the convention.
3) There are still a few seats left on the Huntsville tour bus. There aren't many, and if you wait until August there's an excellent chance the tour will be sold out!
Also, the 5th Hotel we set up a block at is sold out for Wednesday and Thursday of the Convention. Never fear, we're working with the City to set up one more over-flow hotel. It's likely to be several blocks away from the Convention Center, but it will be on, or within a block of the FREE electric shuttle route, so getting around will be easy and free!
A few announcements!
5/19/2019 4:28 PM
We have a few things to make mention of this week.
Number one, in what we believe to be a first for the IPMS USA National Convention, Wingnut Wings will be in attendance as a vendor with 10 tables! Wonder what they'll be bringing with them?
Number two is that in addition to Wingnut Wings, we've got another 96 vendors who reserved 437 tables. That's right, we currently have reservations for 447 tables from 97 different vendors. Check the vendor listings to see who is going to be there. If there's someone who isn't on the list and you'd like to see them, let them know. We still have room left!
Number three. Seminar Chair Dave Lockhart is working hard to put the finishing touches on the seminar program. He's got a ton of them lined up, we're just waiting for him to get everyone assigned to time slots. In the meantime, you can check the seminars page for a tentative listing of who all has agreed to speak. There should be something there for just about everyone! And check back in the following weeks for the semi-official schedule (and yes, I did mean to say semi-official. These guys are all volunteers, and we don't know if someone might have to bail out...).
Number four, we still have a lot of award packages that are in need of sponsors. Come on guys, step on up. For $85 your name, or your Chapter's name, or your Business name can be immortalized, not only on the contest table card, but on sponsor's lists AND for all time on the awards each winner takes home! Check the sponsorship page for information on how to sign up and pay for award sponsorships!
And on a final note for now, remember, we're really interested in seeing your display only models. Let us know how much space you'll be needing for your Chapter, Group, Club, Theme, Individual Display and bring it on. And if you have a model sitting in your display case that won it's category at a Nats, was a Best in Class at a Nats or was a Best in show (Judges or Popular) PLEASE, bring it and put it out on the Blast From the Past tables...maybe it'll win the Blast From the Past award!
A huge announcement from Eduard...
4/27/2019 12:44 PM
Ok, cards on the table, we knew about this last year, but couldn't really say anything. But it seems that iModeler.com has broken the news in Europe at the Moson show...
Yes, Eduard is planning on debuting their brand new, new tool, early P-51D in 1/48 scale at the 2019 IPMS USA Nationals right here in Chattanooga. Test shots made it to the Moson show in Europe this weekend. For now, you can get a bigger glimpse at iModeler.com. With a little luck, our own roving correspondent, Roy Sutherland will get us some more pictures and a few comments on what he sees at the show. But for now, check out the posting at iModeler.
And while we may not really supposed to be mentioning this part, there may be decals in the kits for sale in Chattanooga with a regionally appropriate subject! So, if you want first crack at what looks to be an awesome new kit, make your plans now to be at the Nats this August!
We are now working on filling our 5th hotel!
4/24/2019 3:18 PM
We have another hotel on line. This time it's the Chattanoogan, which is two blocks away, directly behind the Convention Center. A link to on-line reservations will be coming, but for now, you can call the hotel at (800)-619-0018 between 7am and 11pm Eastern Time.
The rate is $149/night. Parking is $9/night self parking and $16/night for valet.
Another Hotel Coming!
4/23/2019 11:12 AM
We've got another block of rooms set up. All we have to do is get the contract signed and we're good to go. We hope to have a reservation link and hotel phone number on the accommodations page tomorrow, Thursday at the latest!
Thanks for your patience!
Another One Bites The Dust (with apologies to Queen)
4/22/2019 8:24 AM
Another hotel has been sold out. That makes 4 hotels sold out now! Never fear, we are already working with the Chattanooga Convention and Visitor's Bureau to bring another hotel into the mix. Check back in a day or two and we hope to have details up!
And while you're at it, if you haven't already registered for the convention, get thee to thy keyboard and gettest thee registered! You'll thank us for saving you $20.
And also, the Huntsville tour and the Songbirds dinner have NOT been canceled. However, if we don't get enough signups, we will have to cancel both of them. We need 50 for Huntsville and 175 for Songbirds, so if you're interested, please sign up and get your friends to sign up.
Model Registration forms are available!
4/20/2019 11:24 AM
You read it right, and you read it here first! Model registration forms are available...
With the Contest, Display Only, and Blast From the Past, it's a little complicated, but we've tried to make it as easy as possible.

Grex Airbrush Workshops nearly sold out!
4/17/2019 10:37 AM
At this time, and pending possible drop outs, there are only four seats left for the Grex Airbrush Workshops, and they are all for the Saturday session. We are keeping a short waiting list for each session, but if you want to guarantee yourself a spot on Saturday, you might want to sign up soon!
A Milestone for the 2019 Nats...
4/14/2019 3:48 PM
Well, my perusal of the latest registration reports show we cracked 100 pre-registrations this last week! With what should be a record number of vendor tables reserved, we're feeling like we are well on the way with registrations now too.
A couple of notes. Sign-ups for the Huntsville tour and the Songbirds dinner are looking pretty low at the moment. We need a minimum of 50 to make the Huntsville tour work, and 175 for the Songbirds dinner. If you haven't signed up, you might want to think about doing it. We know modelers like to wait until the last minute (or is that just me projecting???), but we have a deadline of about June 15th to pull the plugs on both of those without penalty. If we don't have the numbers we need by then, we'll have to cancel them and refund everyone who has signed up.
T-shirt pre-orders aren't exactly lighting the world on fire either. They are $18 (for all sizes) if you buy them at pre-registration, and you're guaranteed to get your size if you pre-order. We will order extras of course, but those will be a financial risk for us...so that will get passed to those who wait until the day of the show to buy. We're probably looking at $20 for sizes up to XL and $23 for any sizes bigger than XL. So, the moral, if there is one, is to pre-order your t-shirts!
More shameless begging for display only models!

We’re serious about packing the Model Room with Models!
Really! - 1 free raffle ticket for each display only model ? Read On…..
We’re sure there will be thousands of models in the competition. But we’re also interested in display only models. We’ve got the space and we want to use it to show off models! To encourage participation in the display only model department we’re going to put it on the line! We’re going to give you one free extra raffle ticket for each model you bring to display that is not entered in the competition! We would hope you would want to show off your work regardless but if you are on the fence about hauling a model to Chattanooga for display only think again! Just image walking away with a primo prize raffle item just for bringing a model to show. Just like your weekly Barnes & Noble coupon some exclusions apply. There is a limit of ten (10) free raffle tickets per person for this purpose. Likewise club or group displays have a similar limit - no more than ten to any one individual participant and you have to have a model in the group display to get a free ticket.
So dust off those previous winners. Pull out those special models that only you have seen. Let’s turn the Chattanooga Convention Center into a miniature museum!
There may be more incentives that we’re not telling anyone about!!!
Bring your Display Only Models!
4/7/2019 4:39 PM
We think a National Convention centered on scale modeling should be about more than just a model contest and vendors. Don't get us wrong. We've spent WAY more than our fair share of money in the vendor's room at the Nationals over the years. And we've entered plenty of models in the contest. But what about just seeing lots of models? Why don't more folks bring their models just to display them? Why do winning models go home with their builders, never to see the proverbial light of day again? What about those folks who for whatever reason, don't like to enter a model contest?
Well, as we've said before, we'd really like to see LOTS of models on the tables at this year's National Convention. Just like we don't think it was over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor, we don't think the world will stop turning if some day there were more models just on display than were entered in the contest.
So we'd like to give a little more encouragement to everyone to bring models just for display. If you bring a model that's just for display, not a contest entry, we'll give you a raffle ticket. That goes for every model you bring for display, up to 10. We're not saying we only want you to bring 10 models for display, only that we don't want to run out of raffle tickets.
And that goes for group and club displays. If you're group of club display is more than 10 models, we'll make sure that every modeler who participated gets a ticket, even if you're display is bigger than 10 models.
So come on folks, bring some models just for folks to look at!
Staybridge Suites added to the Convention Hotels!
3/28/2019 9:03 AM
Ok folks we've been able to secure another 25 rooms per night at the Staybridge Suites. The Staybridge is immediately across the street from the Convention Center. Apart from having to go outside and cross the street, rooms there will actually be closer to the active convention areas of the Convention Center than the Marriott. Go Figure!
There are 15 "Studio" rooms available at $154/night and 10 "Double Suites" at $164/night. Parking will be $9 per day.
While the room rates are a little higher than the other hotels, remember these are extended stay type suites and you can typically get more heads in a room there than you can at the Marriott. For example, all rooms include a queen sized pull out. Breakfast is also included!
Reservations can be made by calling the hotel directly at 423-267-0900 and referencing the IPMS National Convention, or online here.
And finally, if you made a reservation at the Staybridge before we opened this block, please let me know! If the convention rate is lower than the rate you currently have, the convention rate will be honored, and the convention will get credit with the city for your rooms. If the rate you currently have is lower than the convention rate, your lower rate will be honored and we will still get credit for your room. So again, if you already have a room reserved, please let Mike Moore know by email - firstname.lastname@example.org
Three Hotels SOLD OUT - More coming!!!
3/21/2019 5:50 PM
Well, we've done it now. We have a record number of vendor tables reserved, and now we've sold out not one, not two, but THREE, count 'em, THREE hotels. If you've already booked your rooms, fantastic. If you haven't, fear not, we're already in touch with the convention and visitor's bureau about getting another one or two opened up. Give us some time and we'll have more rooms open!
A Record Number of Vendor Tables?
3/3/2019 8:43 PM
It sure looks that way. The current record is Atlanta in 2005 with 424. As of this writing, we've got 431 tables reserved. And we have 5 months still before the convention! If you want vendor tables, go to the vendor page and get your reservation in. If you want to shop and epic vendor hall, make plans to come to Chattanooga in August!
Hotel Rooms can now be reserved!

Chattanooga Scale Modelers are getting ready for Phoenix
7/26/2018 9:44 PM
The local club is sending a decent contingent to Phoenix this year. There's going to be a lot of shadowing going on to help us do a bang up job on the 2019 Nationals.
